Jonathan Lynch is a Solicitor Advocate with higher rights in the Criminal Courts of England and Wales. He is currently practicing as a sole practitioner within the jurisdiction of England and Wales.

Jonathan Lynch has dedicated his legal practice to the provision of free*, subsidised** and/or affordable*** representation for British Forces personnel all over the world, their dependants when outside of England and Wales and the UKBCs who support them when outside of the UK. The focus is on criminal and disciplinary matters within the British military system, although assistance is provided in the making of Service Complaints as well. All such matters are governed by the laws of England and Wales, even when in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2001, Jonathan Lynch practiced as an employed barrister within Her Majesty's Court Service until 2007. In 2006, he converted to a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales in order to accept a commission within the Royal Air Force's Directorate of Legal Services in 2007. Obtaining higher rights in criminal proceedings and, therefore, becoming a Solicitor Advocate in 2007, Jonathan Lynch served firstly as a prosecutor within the Prosecuting Authority of the Royal Air Force (now merged into the Service Prosecuting Authority along with the Army and Navy Prosecuting Authorties), then as a defence lawyer within the Royal Air Force Legal Services (Northern Germany) office.

As a defence lawyer, Jonathan Lynch has, to date, undertaken work in Afghanistan, Brunei, Cyprus, England, Germany, Iraq, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Practice

Lynch Law is the legal practice of Jonathan Lynch. It is a recognised sole practice as per the Solicitors Regulation Authority Rules. With offices in the UK and a presence in Germany, Lynch Law provides representation across the globe.

Lynch Law was established in 2010 to fill a gap in the provision of timely and cost-effective representation of British Forces personnel, dependants and UKBCs in Germany. It soon transpired that such services were required across the globe, so Lynch Law adapted to meet this need.

With the draw-down of British Forces Germany and the relocation of personnel to the UK, in 2018 and 2019 Lynch Law entered into relationships with other legal practices with offices across the UK and established its own office in the UK. With the British Army returning to Germany in 2022, Lynch Law maintains a presence in Germany to assist personnel in need in Germany and in the various deployed areas across Europe. As a consequence, Jonathan Lynch can provide representation to personnel in England and Wales as well as those overseas.

Lynch Law has, therefore, saved those already under a lot of stress from even more stress by providing face-t0-face representation for those far away from the law offices of normal ‘High Street’ firms.

Considerable savings in costs to individuals, the Armed Forces and to the taxpayer have also been made. Lynch Law’s work is almost entirely funded by ‘legal aid’ from the Armed Forces Criminal Legal Aid Authority, but, where a private fee arrangement is in place, Lynch Law’s fees reflect the reality of a client’s earning capacity.

As the world situation changes and the UK Armed Forces are deployed to new areas, Lynch Law will continue to help those in the UK Armed Forces who need help the most.
